THE ANNUAL

PARENT SUMMIT

Sandusky High School
January 20, 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM

The Parent Summit began in 2010 with one goal in mind – to provide parents with all of the tools they need to ensure the success of their children in school. Recent studies have shown that children who excel in school are often the ones who recieve the most support at home. This support is critical in laying down the foundation of our children’s future. Parents are the “first teacher” children will encounter so we want to partner with you to ensure that our students can compete against any student in the world.

COMMUNITY SHOWCASE INFORMATION

Being a partner at the Annual Parent Summit opens amazing opportunities for any local business, club, or organization. With an anticipated attendance of more than one thousand guests, your business will have direct access to our community. The Summit Showcase helps connect families to products and services that can directly benefit their families. This is an amazing opportunity to spread the word about your group or organization. Register today, spaces are limited. Placement is not guaranteed. For questions or concerns, please contact Melanie Thorbahn at mthorbahn@scs-k12.net or 419-984-1000.

GET INVOLVED.

The Annual Parent Summit consists of multiple educational sessions, a vendor showcase, and special speakers. Breakfast and lunch will be served to those who attend. There will be a special keynote speaker that presents during the day. Parents can also walk through the Summit Showcase, which is an area of businesses and organizations where they will receive useful information.

This year, the Summit will focus on the theme "Blue Streak Family". Parents need to know how to manage the stress in their family. The Parent Summit will help focus on how to manage stress, solve problems, and how to form partnerships with area organizations and the school system to work together to ensure success!

Many of our family, friends, and neighbors have been directly effected by the opioid epidemic. We will also be having these difficult conversations from a cross-section of our community about how to manage this growing crisis.

Raffles prizes will be given away that day to those parents who attend and actively participate. Raffle prizes include gift cards to various local stores, a Flat Screen TV, and an iPad Mini. Current Sandusky Middle School and Sandusky High School students will have an opportunity to win a $1000 scholarship, courtesy of McDonald's Sandusky.

Children ages 3-10 are invited to attend Kids Camp for free. Spaces are limited so register your child early. Kids Camp allows children to hike throughout the school while participating in different camp activities. Sandusky City Schools has proudly partnered with organizations such as the Sandusky Children's Museum, Sandusky State Theatre, Sandusky Police Department, and Sandusky Fire Department to bring engaging activities to our children.

TRANSFORMATION PLAN

On March 27, 2014 we launched The Transformation Plan to change the culture of Sandusky City Schools. The main goal was to dramatically redefine the delivery of academics and educational services to position our students to compete on a global level. With the parent summit, parents will be given the tools needed to make sure their child is prepared for the future.
